Zane's Quilt

My daughter is expecting a baby soon and being a bit unconventional she decided she wanted aliens as a theme.  I found these cute iron on figures and designed a quilt and art work around them.  I used lots of vibrant colors and quilted in a random pattern.  The art work was done with acrylics and I took the circle background design from the border and back of the quilt.  I hope they both (mom and baby) like it.

Pastel Sea Floats

Pastel Sea Floats

As I paint these beauties I cannot but help think about the wonderful, weathered sea floats hanging on the sides of boats at dock.  I saw these in Greece and in Monterey Bay, California.  There does not seem to be a specific design or color which makes them almost look like colorful balloons or parade floats.  I have created these with pastel shades but have also done paintings with them in bright vibrant primary colors.  It is a fun project to do to experiment with different color combinations.

This watercolor is a bit bigger than I normally do and took a while to complete.  It is a tribute to my sister and I as children.  She is a year younger and blond and after all these years still my best friend!  We did not fight like many siblings do growing up and have almost identical tastes and voices but that is about where the similarities end.  She is tiny, blond and fair and well.....I'm not. :)  I was thrilled when she decided to take up watercolors herself and am so proud of her.  She has sold her work and has it in art galleries too!  You can take a look at her work on Etsy at Rhemas Art World.  I can picture us years from now, old and maybe a few more wrinkles but still hand in hand, there for each other.  Love you sis! Fairly new to Texas and was thrilled to hear that there are so many local wineries.  Wanted to do a tribute to a few in this watercolor painting.  Still had to give it a bit of a European feel but like the overall effect.  Glasses are always difficult to do and you really have to be careful not to paint the white highlights.  Only used two brushes on this one just to see if I could.

Love Art Nouveau and have recently found a few other artists that had a similar style.  This piece is my nod to Louis Rhead.  It was fun to do, mostly pen and ink and then fill in with marker.  I do have a small bit of watercolor on the swan itself.   Every time I see a swan I think of my sister, don't really know why, but have since I was a girl.  So here's to you Rhema!
